Christmas Story, Rimas

Rimas is a 12-year-old Syrian girl who lives in Al Manana camp in Sarafand. She is one of the most active participants in the Children at Risk activities, as she never misses a session of the activities she is involved in, and she always arrives with great enthusiasm that catches the team’s attention. “Her passion is clear in her constant engagement with the activities, whether educational or recreational, as she always takes the initiative to participate and share ideas,” said one staff member overseeing activities where she participates.

Rimas is also known for her spirit of cooperation. She helps the team by assisting the children who live with her in the camp, encouraging them to join the activities and interact during the sessions. Her presence creates an atmosphere of joy and energy, and “she is considered a positive role model for the other participants.”

The team shared a Christmas story and they noticed how interested she was in the topic and how eager she was to learn more and become more attached to it. She followed the story with great focus and showed increasing fascination with every part that was told. After the story ended, Rimas told us that she loves Christmas stories very much and that she feels joy and peace whenever she hears about the birth of Jesus. She also expressed her desire to learn more similar stories and to participate regularly in the spiritual activities that give her inspiration and comfort.

The team appreciates her dedication, her energy, and her constant smile, “she has a love for life despite the difficult circumstances she faces in the camp.”
Rimas told us: “I love Jesus’ birthday more than any other holiday! Every year, when December comes, my heart overflows with joy and happiness. I adore the Christmas tree lights sparkling in all their colors, and I love the shiny baubles that glimmer when sunlight or lamps touch them. I also love the thought of gifts under the tree… “

Rimas also says: “I tell all my friends Do you know? When Jesus was born, the wise men brought Him beautiful gifts from far away, guided by the shining stars above. And the shepherds, who were in the fields, came to visit Him with warm hearts full of love. They were the first to see Him and honored Him in a very special way!”

“I also love to draw this whole story in a special Christmas picture. I draw a big tree full of colors and lights, the wise men carrying their gifts, the shepherds near the manger with the sheep and chickens, and stars twinkling in the sky. Every year, I try to add more details, and it makes me happy when I see my drawings hanging in my room or when I give them to my family. Drawing… it’s how I tell Jesus’ story and share my joy with the world.”

Rimas tell “For me, gifts aren’t just pretty things… they’re a way to show love and joy, just like the wise men brought gifts to Jesus. And the warmth we give to one another, like the shepherds who visited Him in the cold, helps us live the true spirit of Christmas. Every year, when I decorate the tree and place my drawings next to the gifts, my heart feels full of love and peace.

Jesus’ birthday isn’t just lights, a tree, and gifts… it’s joy, love, the warmth of our hearts, and drawing His story in my own way reminds me that the most important thing is to love each other, be happy, and give just like God gave us the greatest gift… Jesus Christ!”

“Jesus gives us a sense of safety and lets us express ourselves with love and joy. On His birthday, I love to give Him a special flower because He was born in a simple stable, not a palace, on a cold night. Despite the simplicity and the chilly air, His birth brought great warmth to the world.”

“Every year, as I decorate the tree, light up the colorful lights, and hang the shiny baubles, I imagine the beautiful scene in the stable: stars twinkling above, the wise men carrying gifts from afar, and the shepherds coming with hearts full of love. Every gift, every act of love, reminds us of the greatest gift Jesus gave us His presence and His love, filling our hearts with joy and peace.

I wish to share this joy with everyone, imagining myself giving gifts just like the people who brought gifts to Jesus on the night of His birth. Every flower I place, every drawing I make, every light I switch on the tree fills me with the spirit of Christmas: love, giving, and heartfelt joy just as Jesus gave us love and safety from that humble stable so long ago.”
